Student Records & FERPA
Use the information below to review your rights for privacy regarding your student education records or to submit a FERPA request.
Submit a FERPA Request
Current and former students who wish to make a FERPA-related request to view records must submit an online request to the Student Services Center.
Under FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), a student is an individual who is or has been in attendance at an educational institution. You do not have FERPA rights unless or until you are admitted at the university. You may only submit a FERPA request to review your own education records. Others, such as parents of a current or former student, children of alumni, or lawyers, may not submit FERPA requests on behalf of a student.
When making a request, provide complete information in order to assist Stanford in following up on your request, including identification of specific record(s) you wish to inspect.
Federal law requires that the university provide access to requested extant records within 45 days. A Student Services Center official will make arrangements for access and notify you of the time and place where the records may be inspected and reviewed.
Request Forms
- If you are a current student or former student with an active Stanford ID, submit your request here. Stanford IDs typically remain active for five years after conferral.
