International Payments from China and India

International payments are conducted through Flywire, a secure and convenient option for international education, trusted by colleges and universities worldwide. Flywire allows for payment in your home currency and then delivers it to Stanford in U.S. Dollars (USD).

Follow the set of instructions below to complete payments from China or India. 

Payment instructions

  1. Initiate Payment. To access your bill, log into Stanford's student payment system through Axess or this quick link: mystudentbill.stanford.edu. At checkout, choose International Payments – Flywire. Select China/India to view your payment options.
  2. Complete Booking. Choose your payment method and provide the required information for easy posting to your student account.
  3. Send Payment. Follow the instructions provided to send your payment to Flywire. Flywire will process and send your payment to Stanford with your information. For payments from India, submit your LRS Declaration (also known as A2).
  4. Track Payment. You’ll be notified by email/text when Stanford receives your payment. You can track your payment online anytime by creating a login on flywire.com.

FAQs

Q:  I have a loan from a bank or financial institution in India. Can I use Flywire?

A: Yes. After booking your payment, you’ll be provided with an authorization letter (upon creating a payment request, you will be provided with a set of payment instructions that include account details and an authorization letter) detailing that the end recipient of your payment is Stanford, and that Flywire is the official authorized international payment processor. If your bank has further questions, Flywire’s support can help: flywire.com/help.

Q: What if my bank says I cannot pay through Flywire?

A: Banks encourage students to pay directly through them in order to add higher international exchange fees. Provide your bank with the authorization letter and bank instructions from Flywire as proof of the partnership between Flywire and Stanford. Q: What is Tax Collected at Source, or “TCS” (payments from India)?

A: Flywire’s India banking partners (as authorized dealers) are required to collect Tax Collection at Source (TCS). TCS is a tax regulation (amendment under section 206C of the Finance act 2020) per the Government of India for remittances under the Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS). The regulation stipulates a 5.0% tax must be charged, on a Permanent Account Number (PAN) basis, on payments exceeding ₹7 lakh (700,000 INR; approximately 10,000 USD) within India’s financial year from April to March. Q: Can I pay in Chinese Yuan Renminbi (CNY)?

A: You can pay in CNY with competitive exchange rates through Flywire’s locally licensed payment partners in China. See your rates up front, in real time, and Stanford will receive the full amount in the USD you notate to pay.

Q: What are my payment options from India?

A: Payment methods include local bank transfers in INR, with the option to pay through National Electronic Fund transfer (NEFT) or Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS). You can pay in INR with competitive exchange rates you can see in real time, up front.
