APARC Programs
About our core programs
The Center encompasses seven thriving, regional and thematic programs that advance our research agenda and support our mission. Reflecting Stanford’s and APARC’s culture of interdisciplinary studies, our programs promote both academic and policy-relevant scholarship, support teaching, and strengthen collaboration with Asian counterparts.
Asia Health Policy Program
The Asia Health Policy Program, led by Karen Eggleston, promotes comparative understanding of health and health policy in the Asia-Pacific through research, scholarly collaborations, publications, and events.
China Program
The China Program, led by Jean Oi, facilitates multidisciplinary, social science-oriented research and teaching on contemporary China and the implications of its rise for the global community.
Japan Program
The Japan Program, led by Kiyoteru Tsutsui, advances multidisciplinary research and education on the political, economic, and social factors that affect Japan and its role on the world's stage.
Korea Program
The Korea Program, directed by Gi-Wook Shin, conducts multidisciplinary, social science-oriented research on policy-relevant Korea topics and supports teaching and outreach on Korean issues.
South Asia Initiative
The South Asia Initiative, led by Arzan Tarapore, uses rigorous research, general-interest publications, programming, and global networks to address the region’s most consequential policy issues.
Southeast Asia Program
The Southeast Asia Program, led by Donald Emmerson, stimulates research and publications on contemporary Southeast Asian issues and produces fresh policy perspectives on regional events and trends.
Global Affiliates Program
The Global Affiliates Program strengthens U.S.-Asia collaboration and helps Asian organizations advance entrepreneurial thinking and a global perspective. Each year the Program hosts affiliate representatives as visiting scholars.
