As an incoming Stanford student, your conduct is governed by the Fundamental Standard, which states:
"Students at Stanford are expected to show both within and without the university such respect for order, morality, personal honor and the rights of others as is demanded of good citizens. Failure to do this will be sufficient cause for removal from the university.”
More specifically, students are expected to respect and uphold the rights and dignity of others, regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or marital status. Stanford also prohibits unlawful harassment including sexual harassment and sexual violence. This policy applies to Stanford programs and activities both on and off-campus. This policy also extends to online groups and chats, such as the private class Facebook group. In short, we expect all members of online communities with Stanford students to be positive contributors, respectful, responsible, and appropriate in your postings as well as in your interactions in private group chats. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the university.
Current Stanford students have put together a welcome video that we ask you to watch before joining Stanford online communities. The video describes Stanford values and provides guidance about your interactions with each other as part of the Stanford community.
