About
Stanford's Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) Doctoral Fellowship Program aims to recruit and retain outstanding doctoral students who have the potential to contribute to the diversity of their academic fields and degree programs. Supported and operated by the VPGE office, EDGE is based on a highly successful program of the National Science Foundation. Two distinct EDGE programs serve Stanford doctoral students: one in the social and behavioral sciences, business, education, and the humanities (EDGE-SBEH), and the other in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (EDGE-STEM). The EDGE-SBEH and EDGE-STEM programs are run in collaboration with the Schools of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences, Humanities and Sciences, Engineering, and the Graduate Schools of Business and Education.
The EDGE Doctoral Fellowship Program reflects Stanford's commitment to fostering intellectual excellence in graduate education by enrolling a diverse student body and creating a vibrant and supportive educational environment. EDGE complements the training that doctoral students receive in their academic degree programs with opportunities for professional development, interdisciplinary research workshops, and mentorship by advanced graduate students and EDGE faculty advisors. EDGE fellows receive financial support, as well as the opportunity to apply for funding for research and professional travel and to engage in one-on-one mentoring.
The EDGE-STEM and EDGE-SBE Doctoral Fellowship Programs provide some of our most outstanding doctoral students with a supportive intellectual community and a set of extremely valuable resources at a critical juncture in their academic development. I am confident that EDGE will advance the fellows' academic success and inspire the next generation of scholars who, with their unique perspectives and life experiences, will enhance the diversity of their academic fields and disciplines.

How To Apply
EDGE Doctoral Fellowships are awarded to incoming doctoral students, who are nominated by their degree program after they are admitted. Candidates are nominated after admissions decisions by degree programs to the deans' offices in the Schools of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences, Education, Engineering, and Humanities and Sciences.
