Dear District 3 Residents,

As your representative, I am in the process of developing a long-range and robust plan to extend the rich cultural legacy of the Adeline Corridor. The corridor represents a crucial cultural focal point for our district. Therefore, the Adeline Corridor Specific Plan establishes a vision for our community and a guideline for how to guide it into the future. The plan would incorporate five big ideas:

1. Affordable Housing: Housing prices have been rising substantially as California's housing crisis continues, and I am committed to making Berkeley as affordable as possible for you. The plan aims to make 50% of all housing developments for the next 20 years along the corridor must remain affordable for those with the lowest incomes and highest needs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                
2. Ashby BART Station: Redevelopment of the area surrounding the Ashby BART Station to create a vibrant neighborhood center. The project would use green construction to build mixed-use buildings, structured parking, commercial and civic spaces on the ground floor, and new public space.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
3. Business Improvement District: Create a Business Improvement District (BID) serving the Adeline Corridor, with fees from business and/or property owners used to support physical improvements, special events, public safety, street cleanliness/maintenance, and programming. This BID would be similar to the ones located Downtown and on Telegraph Avenue.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      
4. Street Re-Design: Redesign Adeline Street from the Oakland border north to Derby Street, creating more public open spaces out of paved space, reducing crossing distances, and making the street more comfortable for pedestrians and cyclists. It would retain Adeline's function as a cross-town thoroughfare while making it more attractive and attentive to community needs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            
5. Community Assets and Resources: Support capital improvements that strengthen existing institutions such as the Berkeley Flea Market, the South Berkeley Farmers Market, and the annual Juneteenth Festival, as well as future institutions such as the African American Holistic Resource Center.
