Welcome to the Transportation Division at the City of Berkeley, CA. We are part of the Department of Public Works.
The Transportation Division of the Public Works Department oversees citywide transportation planning, traffic engineering, parking, bicycle and pedestrian planning, and alternative transportation programs. In partnership with neighborhood organizations, community groups, and local business associations, our office develops short and long range policy recommendations and directs program implementation to support a safe, efficient transportation environment in Berkeley.
Hopkins Corridor
Traffic and Placemaking Study - Based on community feedback from our second workshop that was held in March, we anticipate bringing revised alternatives back to the community for consideration at another public workshop this September. Details will be posted here and distributed widely as we get closer to the date. Engineering design is scheduled to begin in mid-2022 in preparation for roadway repaving in summer 2023. Sacramento Complete Streets Project – Virginia to Addison - The purpose of the Sacramento Complete Streets
Improvements Project is to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety at the
following intersections of Sacramento Street:
Virginia Street, Delaware Street, University Avenue, and Addison Street. Construction of the Project began in July

One-Way Vehicle Share - Vehicle share is a membership-based service that allows members to pick up a vehicle in one location and drop it off at a different location. Members find the location of available vehicles in real-time using an organization's mobile application or website. Berkeley Complete Streets Policy - On December 11, 2012, Berkeley City Council adopted a Complete Streets Policy (Resolution 65,978-N.S.) to guide future street design and repair activities. “Complete Streets” describes a comprehensive, integrated transportation network with infrastructure and design that allows safe and convenient travel along and across streets for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, persons with disabilities, motorists, movers of commercial goods, users and operators of public transportation, emergency vehicles, seniors, children, youth, and families.
