Yesterday's surprise appearance of the Shamrock Shake in New York City was as fleeting as Brigadoon (which was Scottish, yes, but anyway). The minty St. Patrick's Day delight, which had not surfaced at McDonald's in this region for years, was gone almost as soon as it appeared, amidst reports of hoarding at the Union Square location, where one greedy customer is said to have bought 100. A call to verify that claim dissolved into utter confusion, with the predominantly Spanish-speaking manager mistaking this blogger for the shake machine repairman. From what we were able to gather, the machine is broken, but they still have the capacity to make some Shamrock Shakes, and we think she said that if the machine is fixed today, there will be shakes this afternoon?
Shamrock Shakes were also served at the Times Square McDonald's yesterday, but an employee there tells us it was "mad busy" and they quickly exhausted their supply. But according to Shamrock Shake.com, there have been sightings in NYC as recently as midnight at the 24 hour McDonald's on Northern Boulevard in Queens, between the Clearview Expressway and Francis Lewis Blvd. We'd give them a call to verify, but honestly, we've spent way too much time on this already. See you next year, Shakeheads! To tide you over, a vintage Shamrock Shake commercial, below:
Or, you could just not pollute your body with this toxic crap.
TAKE THAT BACK.
I got one in Union Square yesterday around 1:30 with no problem. It tasted so good, I haven't had one in years. @gregoire I enjoyed polluting my body with the delicious toxic crap.
I also got one yesterday at Union Square. I was a Shamrock Shake virgin!
It was kind of yummy and gross all at the same time.
