WP: "Republicans signaled Tuesday that dropping the public option would not garner additional GOP backing. Jon Kyl (Ariz.), the second-ranking Senate Republican leader, criticized an alternative idea of creating a private insurance cooperative, calling it a "Trojan horse" that was effectively the same as the public option." In short, a majority, if not 95% of them are going to vote against a health reform bill because they want to weaken Obama, no matter what concessions he makes. Premium and Donation Goal

Obama to Woo Liberal Faith Groups to Advocate for Healthcare Reform

When President Obama won victories in three Western states last year — New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado — Democrats were quick to proclaim that this region, long identified with Republicans, was undergoing a transformation. And when Western Democratic leaders gathered in Denver the other day to take stock of where the party stood, there was cause for optimism. 8/19

Our Factually Deprived Society. Ann Davidow Exclusively for BuzzFlash.com on Tuesday, August 18. Typically enough, Cheney chose to have TVs in his hotel rooms tuned to the FOX News Channel. That many of the nation’s leaders find FOX the source for news and views is either a case of flawed judgment or simply a willingness to let partisanship guide the ship of state. It can’t have been accidental that, when the scandals involving Senator Larry Craig and Governor Sanford broke, Fox labeled their party affiliation with a D. And in illustrating a news story FOX put up a map that showed Egypt nestled between Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan and Syria, right where one might have expected to find Iraq. Oh well, ‘they report, viewers must try to separate fact from fiction’.

A healthcare reform deal abandoning a public (or "government-run") option for consumers could cost as many as 100 Democratic votes in the House, one House Democratic lawmaker warned Monday. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) asserted that rumored compromises on a Senate bill to win centrist votes would torpedo healthcare reform's prospects with liberal members of the House. The liberal New York Democrat said that healthcare reform would be essentially meaningless without having a public option made available for consumers. 8/18

Will it be a Democratic civil war? P.M. Carpenter Exclusively on BuzzFlash for Monday, August 17. 'If there's a way, we'll find it!' is the audio logo of one of those Medicare-financed electric scooter companies which advertises relentlessly on cable news to the infirm elderly. Yet every time I hear it, I think not of nifty little motorized wheelchairs but of the Democratic Party and its working logo, If there's a way to screw it up, we'll find it! (Just a note. P.M. is a brilliant, free-thinking columnist for BuzzFlash, but BuzzFlash officially and unequivocally supports a government ins. option; in fact we support Medicare for all Americans. We differ with P.M., because it was within reach, but the White House didn't learn its lesson; it tried to be 'bipartisan' and bring a feather to a gun fight.)

It is said 'there are none so blind as those who will not see' which describes many of the protesters who seem to be in a state of amorphous rage, manipulated by partisans and ideologues who use disorder to promote agendas at a far remove from the interests of those they claim to serve and for whom health-care reform is but a convenient pretext for destabilizing the Obama presidency.
