Alexis Okeowo joined The New Yorker as a staff writer in 2015. She is the author of “A Moonless, Starless Sky: Ordinary Women and Men Fighting Extremism in Africa.” Her work has also been anthologized in “The Best American Sports Writing” (2017) and “The Best American Travel Writing” (2017). She has been awarded fellowships and grants from New America, the Alicia Patterson Foundation, the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, and the International Reporting Project. She has previously contributed to the New York Times Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek, and the Financial Times.
