Policies

Learning & Organizational Effectiveness (L&OE) is committed to providing Stanford employees with high quality training opportunities. Courses offered through L&OE are in high-demand with long waitlists, but we strive to reach as many staff as possible. To ensure participants receive the full benefit of training courses, we have updated our policies.  Please carefully read our policies prior to enrolling in training. If you would like additional information about our policies, please contact Learning & Organizational Effectiveness, learningdev@stanford.edu, (650) 723-4635.

Training Support

We are here to support you! The majority of our courses include support for you before and after the training event. From goal setting activities and self-evaluations to coaching and resource sharing, our pre-work and follow-up is meant to help you succeed. To get the most out of your training experience, please take the time to complete the activities prior to training.  If you have questions or need help, the Learning & Organizational Effectiveness department is available to provide guidance and support.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that work and life can be unpredictable, and there may be times when a participant needs to drop from a course.  If you enroll in training and are no longer able to attend, you are able to drop the course free of charge with five or more business days notice.  Course fees (if applicable) will also be refunded.

If you need to drop from a course within four business days, you will be charged $75 and the full course fee, if applicable.

In some instances, a supervisor may request you drop from a course due to an immediate work need.  In these cases, the supervisor will need to authorize a charge back to the departmental PTA for the drop fee as well as any additional course fees that may apply.

Late Policy

We hope you understand that it can be very disruptive to the learning process to have people enter class late or leave early.  These disruptions are hard on the participants and can be very challenging for training staff to accommodate.

  • Due to the disruption to the class and to the learning experiences of other attendees, participants who arrive more than 10 minutes late will not be able to attend the session.
  • Participants who are turned away from a session due to lateness will be charged a $75 “no-show” fee, on top of any additional fees paid to enroll.
  • In cases of a course with a waiting list, participants who arrive late may have their seat forfeited to a waitlisted participant.
  • Those who are enrolled in courses should plan to stay for the complete duration of the course.  Although there is no financial penalty for leaving early, we ask that participants who know they will not be able to stay for the entire course do not take a spot from a participant who would take full advantage of the learning opportunity.

While we understand that circumstances beyond your control may arise, we hope you realize that our policies exist to ensure a high-quality experience free of disruptions to all participants.

To ensure you make it on time, you may want to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the course to allow sufficient time to: find a parking space, locate the classroom, meet the instructor and your fellow students, receive your course materials, and settle in to prepare for learning.

Course Fees

To date, the majority of courses offered through Learning & Organizational Effectiveness department have been at no cost to Stanford employees.  In FY12 we are able to add additional courses by charging a small fee ($100; STAP eligible) for certain day-long offerings.  Beginning in July 1, 2012, most training courses offered will include a nominal fee to help cover the cost associated with the training, and allow for expansion of the number of courses offered.  The fee will be as follows:

  • $50- Half-day courses
  • $100- Full-day courses
  • $250+- Certification programs

If you are unable to attend a course due to fees, please contact our department, as scholarships are available on a case by case basis.
