Israel

The highlight of my years at Stanford will be my reconnection
to Israel. My experience on campus taught me about Israel's perception on the world stage. I am thankful for Hillel for providing me with opportunities to communicate and raise awareness about Israel to a wide audience.

ISRAEL

Hillel@Stanford aims to develop a campus engaged with Israel on many levels — its culture, high-tech opportunities, and historic significance for the world’s many faiths.

With a State Department travel advisory limiting the university’s ability to provide travel-study opportunities in Israel, Hillel@Stanford is proud to offer the George and Charlotte Shultz Fellowship in Modern Israel Studies to outstanding students who wish to conduct summer research in Israel. Established by New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and his wife, Ann, a Stanford alumna, our best and brightest students have taken advantage of this competitive fellowship juried by Stanford faculty including Professors Larry Diamond, Jeffrey Koseff, Abbas Milani, The Hon. Condoleezza Rice, and The Hon. Abraham D. Sofaer.

Investment in this area will:
  • Support an Israel Fellow — a young Israeli who brings life experience and cultural context to the campus community.
  • Support the development of an evolving strategy and staffing for civil dialogue, peaceful initiatives, and a positive pathway forward with regard to Israel on campus.
  • Train students to develop strategies, events, and communications that nurture understanding of the Jewish state, its international role, and opportunities for the Stanford community.
  • Support the Israel@Stanford High Tech Initiative, bringing entrepreneurs from the start-up nation to Stanford.
