Manage Groups Using Pidgin

Most group management in Pidgin occurs directly on the Buddy List or via menu items in the Buddies menu.

Adding a group

You will want to add a group for your Stanford buddies before adding any buddies.

1. In the Buddies menu, click Add Group.
2. Enter a group name for your Stanford instant messaging buddies and then click Add.
   
   
3. If this group does not display in your Buddy List, go to the Buddies menu, point to Show, and click Empty Groups.
   
   

Removing a group

Note: Removing a group also deletes all the buddies in that group. If you want to keep some of them, you will need to move those buddies to another group. Remember to show offline buddies first, so that you don't forget anyone. (To show offline buddies, go to the Buddies menu, point to Show, and click Offline Buddies if the command is not already selected.)

1. In your Buddies List, right-click the name of the group you want to remove.
2. Click Delete Group.
3. At the prompt, click Remove Group.
   
   

Reordering groups

To move a group to a new position, simply drag the group name.

Renaming groups

To rename a group, right-click the group name and click Rename. The group name will turn into an editable text field. Enter a new name.
