Vision

The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies (CES) is building a dynamic global community of entrepreneurs and thought leaders who are changing the world. We accomplish this by:

• Supporting ground-breaking research and education that advances entrepreneurial thinking.
• Connecting, enabling, and inspiring Stanford students and alumni to create and scale innovative new ventures.
• Creating a hub for the interests and pursuits of the entrepreneurial community —faculty, students, alumni, practitioners, and investors.

Background

The CES was founded in 1996 through a visionary partnership of two Stanford faculty, Charles A. Holloway and Irv Grousbeck, to address the need for greater understanding of issues facing entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial community. We work to encourage collaboration between MBAs, engineers, lawyers, and medical school students through joint classes, events, and collaborative programs.

Louis W. Foster Resource Center

The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies is housed in the Louis W. Foster Resource Center, named in honor of Louis W. Foster, AB '35, at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Mr. Foster exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit as founder of 20th Century Industries. This resource center was made possible by a gift from the Louis and Gladyce Foster Family Foundation.

Community

The GSB is an ideal place to learn and practice entrepreneurship because of several unique aspects of our community, including:

• Access to Stanford’s world-class educational resources and colleges;
• Location in the heart of the Silicon Valley; and
• Prominent and close-knit network of alumni, faculty, and students.

Our passion is supporting the community of Stanford entrepreneurial graduate students and alumni in starting and growing enduring companies that change lives and change the world.
