Working with Industry
If your research will involve collaborating with or funding from industry, or you need research materials from labs outside Stanford, the Industrial Contracts Office (ICO) will handle the agreement.

Overview
Located in the Office of Technology Licensing (OTL), ICO negotiates a variety of research contracts with industry, ranging from the transfer of biological research materials to multi-million-dollar sponsored research agreements (SRAs) and industry affiliates programs. Agreement issues include freedom to publish, ownership of research results, and intellectual property rights.
Types of Agreements
The Industrial Contract Office handles the following types of Agreements:
- Industry Sponsored Research (SRAs)
- Amendments to existing agreements
- Research Collaboration Agreements
- Industrial Affiliates Programs
- Industry Confidentiality (NDAs)
- Industry Collaborations
- Material Transfers (with industry, non-profits and government) – incoming, outgoing, and human tissue
- Equipment Loans from Industry
- Software Research Licenses
ICO does not handle clinical trial agreements. For non-federal clinical trials, contact the Research Management Group in the School of Medicine, and for federally funded trials, contact the Office of Sponsored Research.
