Several items from SUL's collections will be screened at this event at the Exploratorium in San Francisco

Please join us at this exciting event celebrating moving image treasures preserved in archival repositories around the Bay Area, including Stanford Libraries. It is a special treat to be able to see media that has been preserved at SUL screened in a theater!

WHAT: Video Capsule: Treasures from Bay Area Archives

WHERE: Exploratorium, Pier 15: Kanbar Forum. Please enter the Exploratorium through the historic Pier 15 Bulkhead located directly on the Embarcadero.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 27 at 7PM

ADMISSION: Free

Among the items to be featured at the screening are:

  • "Zooming into the Mandelbrot Set" (1987), from the papers of Benoit Mandelbrot, Department of Special Collections
  • "Merry Mount" performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1934, from the Richard Bonelli collection, Archive of Recorded Sound (excerpt)
  • "Lisa Demo" (1982), from the Apple Computer, Inc. Records (excerpt)
  • some of the earliest video footage recorded on a portable device from a San Francisco cable car in 1967, from the Ampex Corp. Records
