The Center for African Studies plays an essential role in providing graduate and undergraduate students with funding to pursue overseas research, language training and volunteer opportunities.  The Center spreads awareness on funding opportunities, and helps guide students in deciding what fellowships are best for them.

Language Study

The Center facilitates rigorous and rewarding language study on campus.  Courses in Arabic, Swahili, Zulu, Xhosa, Akan, Yoruba, Igbo, Wolof and Hausa, for example, are offered regularly.  Students interested in African Studies are highly encouraged to take courses in language relevant to the region in which they study.

Campus Events

The Center for African Studies hosts a variety of events on campus that are free and open to all students, faculty and community members.  CAS events give students a unique opportunity to interact with experts, artists, and academics in African-related fields.  The Center's weekly speaker forum on all issues in and about Africa, Africa Table, takes place every Wednesday at 12 Noon.
