Stanford Alzheimer's Disease Research Center

The Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) is part of a nationwide network of Alzheimer’s Disease Centers supported by the National Institutes of Health.  The centers work together to translate research advances into improved diagnosis and care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related brain disorders.  The ultimate goals are to cure Alzheimer’s disease and, even more important, to prevent it from developing.

The clinical and research focus of the Stanford ADRC includes both Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.  They are the most common and the second most common neurodegenerative disorders.  We believe that research and patient care can be advanced by comparing and contrasting distinctive features of each.

The Stanford ADRC has particular strengths in neuroimmunity, synapse biology, brain imaging, clinical assessment and clinical research, biostatistics and bioinformatics, epidemiology, and caregiver outreach.  Our outreach activities include Latino and American Indian communities in the Bay Area.  Our ADRC partners include Stanford Medicine, the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute, and the Northern California and Northern Nevada chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  We have strong ties to the Pacific Udall Center, the Stanford Neurosciences Institute and other Stanford centers.
