Our Suggestions On Housing
If you're new to Stanford Hospital, here are some considerations while looking for housing near the hospital.

  1. Read your employment contract to know your yearly income, then calculate your monthly budget, after taxes.
  2. Know where your rotations will be held for your years in medical training. Check out your department website or contact your Program Coordinator for this information if unavailable online.

Some departments assist residents with resources, such as housing subsidies, to alleviate the high cost of living near the hospital. Check out what your department has to say about housing before you start.

If you haven't found any rental listings to your liking, here are some resources that may help in your housing search. Our On-campus housing resources are in high demand and often have long wait lists. Online and Other resources are the go-to option for many of our residents.

Stanford Housing Website - For general tips and ideas.

Stanford West Apartments - 1, 2, 3 bedroom apartments are within walking distance from the Medical Center. Inquire for more information at stanfordwestapartments@stanford.edu or at 650-725-2000.

Welch Road Apartments - Studio, 1, 2 bedroom apartments on 1180 Welch Road. There is a long wait list and housing assignment is based on a lottery held in early May each year. Welch is open to trainees who are on the Stanford Healthcare (SHC) Payroll. Send your applications to welchroad@stanford.edu. Please call 650-497-0101 for more information.

Alternatively, you can also ask a friend or drive around and look for vacancy signs as some apartments don't advertise online.

If you have a housing opportunity, or a rental you own for incoming house staff, please share your listing with us at gme@med.stanford.edu. All incoming residents/fellows who inquire on housing opportunities will receive these updates.
