Dual Degree MD-MPH Program
The Stanford/UC Berkeley Dual Degree MD-MPH Program is designed to be an extension of work begun through the Scholarly Concentration in Community Health. It is an explicit partnership with the Interdisciplinary Program at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, the most flexible of Berkeley’s one-year MPH programs designed primarily for medical students and other health professionals at various stages of their careers. The program allows medical students to integrate and apply their public health training and perspective throughout their medical education, to complete original public health research, and to fulfill the requirements for both degrees within five years.
Most students enter into the Dual Degree Program after their second year of medical school and continue their community-based work begun through the Scholarly Concentration for their MPH research project
Stanford interested in the Dual Degree must comply with the standard application requirements for the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, and admission is not guaranteed. To avoid paying tuition at both institutions, Dual Degree students must take a leave of absence from Stanford University while completing the MPH at UC Berkeley.
