Heart Transplantation

The pediatric heart transplantation program at Stanford has been in continuous operation since 1984 and has transplanted more than 300 children as of 2014.  We serve primarily the population of Northern California, but also have patients from multiple locations in the Western United States including Hawaii.  The transplant program provides service to children with highly complex anatomic and immunologic disease, and is tightly integrated with the mechanical circulatory support program.  We participate actively in the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study, with the goal of collecting data nationally to enhance our ability to treat children after heart transplantation.
