Infectious Diseases

catherineblishmd Catherine Blish, MD, PhD

Catherine Blish, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases and geographic medicine.  She received her MD and her PhD in immunology from the University of Washington School of Medicine.  She completed residency and fellowship at the University of Washington, and pursued postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Julie Overbaugh, PhD at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.  Her research focuses on gaining insight into the prevention and control of HIV and other viral pathogens by studying the interplay between the virus and the host immune response.  She pairs basic science studies using innovative technologies, such as single cell mass cytometry, with molecular epidemiology investigations of viral infections in the real world.  She hopes to use these studies to open new avenues to develop novel approaches for vaccines, adjuvants, and other interventions to prevent viral infections.
