The Obstetrics & Gynecology Department at Stanford University is dedicated to serving the community. Through our on-site and affiliate (off-site) clinical programs, we are able to provide the community with state-of-the-art care for all types of pregnancies and deliveries. From normal heathy deliveries, to "high-risk" pregnancies and deliveries, our multi-faceted approach to Maternal, Fetal, Neonatal and Well Baby Care is unsurpassed.
The Charles B. and Ann L. Johnson Center for Pregnancy and Newborn Services

The Charles B. and Ann L. Johnson Center for Pregnancy and Newborn Services brings together clinical services for the mother, fetus and newborn. It formalizes academic partnerships among participating faculty and staff dedicated to the health and well-being of child-bearing families from conception through infancy. The Johnson Center name designates collaboration between already existing services and departments, rather than a separate building or location.
Center clinical services include:
- Prenatal and postpartum care, including fetal and genetic testing
- Diagnosis and counseling for low and high risk women
- Neonatal intensive services for critically ill newborns
- Obstetrical delivery service, including 24 hour in house OB Anesthesia coverage
- Mary L. Johnson Development and Behavior Unit, providing comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic services for children at medical risk for developmental delay
General Obstetrics
- Includes obstetric care provided by an Obstetrician.
High Risk Pregnancy (Maternal-Fetal Medicine)
- Specialists for high-risk pregnancies deliver quality care to women experiencing pregnancies with fetal or maternal complications.
Genetic Counseling
- Experienced counselors and geneticists educate patients regarding the risks of advanced maternal age; positive alpha fetoprotein screening; metabolic, chromosomal, or physical abnormalities; teratogen exposure, including chemotherapy, toxins, infections, alcohol, drugs or other medications; as well as ultrasound diagnosed anomaly.
- We also offer screening for Cystic Fibrosis and Tay Sachs Disease.
Perinatal Diagnostic Center
- Patients are referred for prenatal diagnosis by ultrasound, amniocentesis, and percutaneous umbilical blood sampling.
- The Center also performs fetal assessment through nonstress testing, amniotic fluid evaluation and biophysical profile.
