Do I need a medical degree to be considered for admission to Stanford H4A?
No. Stanford H4A fellows must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent and an interest in prevention of chronic diseases in their community. For more information, click here.
How do I apply to Stanford H4A program?

When are applications due?
Admission is rolling, and applications are due in mid-April before the start of the 9-month program in September. Apply online here.
I am an international student. Can I apply?
Stanford H4A DOES NOT issue visas. However, if you hold a dependent visa (e.g. F2 or J2) which will be valid during the time of the program, you may be eligible to join Stanford H4A under the avocational course exception. If you are an F-1 visa holder with an OPT job, you may be eligible to take the H4A program at the same time. B-1 and B-2 tourist visa holders are not eligible for H4A, and all visa holders are responsible for legally obtaining their visas and maintaining their eligibility.
How much does Stanford H4A cost?
The course fee for this 9-month program is $20,000 plus an additional 3.1% if paying by credit card. The course fee does not include course materials, which will cost approximately $400 for the year, housing, parking, insurance, transportation, or living expenses. For more information, click here.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes, financial assistance may be available for qualified applicants in the form of course fee reductions or waivers. We understand that some applicants have saved funds for medical or graduate school and may not be in a position to use those funds for Stanford H4A. Who are the community partners for the internship portion?
Our Stanford H4A community partners include Stanford clinics, local schools, public health departments, community centers, and corporate partners. Fellows may choose to create their own program to meet the goals (and in lieu) of the Service Learning Internship. This MUST be discussed and approved by the Director of Stanford H4A before the start of the quarter. Click here for more information about H4A community partners.
Are the internships paid?
No.
When do classes start?
Classes follow Stanford's Academic Calendar. Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters and will meet once per week on Thursdays.
What is the time commitment?
The program is designed for those who have other (work or personal) commitments. All classes will be on Thursdays for the entire program. In the first quarter there are 3 classes plus the program and internship engagement class, thus 10 Thursdays are full day commitments. For the 2nd quarter (2 classes plus program engagement class) and 3rd quarter (1 class plus program engagement class), we expect 2/3 and 1/2 day commitments respectively.
