PCE Divisions

Advance Planning - The Advance Planning section within the Department of Planning and Community Environment is responsible for administering the City's housing, historic preservation, and community development programs. The section is also responsible for developing the Comprehensive Plan Amendment, which would update the existing 1998 - 2010 Comprehensive Plan through the horizon year 2025. Other Advance Planning staff responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordination of special studies with other agencies and jurisdictions, including the Association of Bay Area Governments, the County of Santa Clara, and State of California and Zoning Ordinance updates and preparation of various yearly reports to the City Council, such as information on Williamson Act properties, residential and commercial vacancy rates, and automobile parking assessments.

Code Enforcement - The Code Enforcement Program promotes maintaining a safe and desirable living and working environment and is responsible for enforcement of zoning regulations, land uses, and long-term monitoring of requirements and conditions at specific sites throughout the City. Current Planning – Current Planning includes environmental review and collaborative coordination with staff of other City departments and customers/stakeholders involved in the City’s planning entitlement processes, and leads the sustainability program for development, including the diversion of construction and demolition debris.

Transportation
- The Transportation Division enhances safety and mobility in Palo Alto’s transportation system while protecting environmental resources and preserving the community's quality of life. The Transportation Division is responsible for Parking Management, Traffic Operations in the City, the Bicycle System, Area Transportation Studies, Public Transit Service, Regional Transportation activities, the Shuttle System, Safe Routes to School and Neighborhood Traffic Calming.
