What to Expect

If your child needs a sleep study, it will be conducted at our Mountain View location.

Coming to sleep clinic is like going to any other medical specialist. Your insurance may require pre-authorization which our staff may discuss with you at the time the appointment is made. You may be scheduled for an office visit initially or perhaps directly for a sleep study depending on the individual situation. During office visits, a history and physical examination will be conducted focusing on the sleep complaint. Office visits are scheduled for weekdays during the daytime.

We offer an “open system” lab, which allows parents to observe what is going on and be there to support their child.

Patients are evaluated in a kid-friendly environment with age-appropriate games, books and videos.

Overnight sleep studies are scheduled 7 days a week and usually require spending 12 hours or longer at the clinic. If the child is scheduled for an overnight sleep study, a parent or guardian is expected to share the room with the child. The child should feel free to bring anything with them to make them feel comfortable and remind them of home (except pets!).

Check in time is 7 pm so the child can become familiar with their bedroom. The child can go to sleep and wake up at their usual time. More details regarding the sleep test will be provided when the appointment is scheduled.

Results of the study are sent to the referring physician. Patients needing further care or follow up, can be referred to other Lucile Packard Children's Hospital specialists.
