The 16 faculty in our department and the members of their research groups take a four-dimensional view of the Earth, investigating the processes that shape our planet from the core to the atmosphere and across the full depth of geological time spanning more than four and a half billion years.

The research and teaching in the department contribute to our most basic understanding of our host planet – how it came to its current state and where it may be heading - as well as to the responsible discovery and use of Earth’s natural resources and to the identification, mitigation, and remediation of environmental hazards.
