This project developed a simple, comprehensive analytic tool and framework, called the Fiscal Responsibility Index, to assess sovereign fiscal responsibility and sustainability. This index was designed to illustrate where the United States is, where it is headed, and how it compares with other nations in the area of fiscal responsibility and sustainability. The students found that the U.S. ranks near the bottom when compared with 33 OECD and BRIC nations. Their work, completed for the Comeback America Initiative, was featured on CNN and in the Wall Street Journal.
