Types of funding
Discretionary General Fees Funding
These funds are paid for by the student general fee every quarter and are available to undergraduate groups registered with the Office of Student Activities. There are two types of groups that receive discretionary funding: programming and community service.

Programming groups generally engage in hosting cultural activities, speakers, or other types of programs of interest to students. Each year, programming groups are eligible to receive $6,000 in discretionary funding.

Community Service groups usually participate in some sort of service to members of the Stanford and surrounding community. Community Service groups are eligible to receive $7,000. There are also some differences in funding policies for different types of groups.

Special Fees Funding
These funds are given to student groups that provide services that have a broad mission and wide-reaching impact on the Stanford community. Special Fees funding is paid for by the student activities fee every quarter, available to undergraduate groups registered with the Office of Student Activities.

Special Fees groups receive funding once a year.Special Fees groups apply for funding in winter quarter, are interviewed by the Appropriations Committee, and have their fees voted on in the Spring.

Special Fees funding is for groups with budgets exceeding $6,000 per year or do not abide by Undergraduate funding guidelines.

Groups who receive Special Fees funding are ineligible to apply for General Fees funding, unless directly from the General Fees group itself via co-sponsorship or other means.
