The Stanford Neuromuscular Disorders Program Fellowship

The Stanford Neuromuscular Disorders Program accepts two fellows per year for intensive advanced training in Neuromuscular Diseases. This fellowship is accredited by the American College of Graduate Education (ACGME), and provides training in adult and pediatric neuromuscular diseases, neuropathology, and electromyography. There is particular focus on the clinical diagnosis and management of these conditions.

Applicants should indicate whether they are interested in focusing on the adult or pediatric population. Both fellowship tracks incorporate experiences with adult and pediatric patients.

The fellowship experience includes multidisciplinary clinics for comprehensive care of new and follow-up adult and pediatric neuromuscular patients, neuromuscular continuity clinic for fellows, weekly training in electromyography, and an active inpatient neuromuscular consultation and electromyography service. The clinical and inpatient experiences take place at Stanford Hospital & Clinics, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and California Pacific Medical Center (San Francisco). Fellows work closely with attending physicians and are also involved in supervising residents and medical students.

Clinical and laboratory research projects are encouraged, and flexible elective time is available for accomplishing this during the year. Elective time can also be used for additional training in autonomic testing, performance of skin and muscle biopsies, Botox injections, and evoked potentials.

Didactic experiences include a neuromuscular lecture series, case conference, and EMG review sessions, all occurring on a weekly basis. This academic conference is oriented towards education of the fellows, and is attended by neuromuscular, neurophysiology, and neuropathology attendings.  Additionally, fellows attend monthly neuromuscular journal club, robust monthly neuropathology conferences and weekly electrophysiology lectures.
