Scientific collaboration drives success in addressing essential scientific questions from multiple disciplines and perspectives. This workshop will give postdocs the basic skills for maximizing their effectiveness and overall success as team scientists. Based on their NIH-published Collaboration and Team Science: A Field Guide, NIH Ombudspeople Drs. Howard Gadlin and Michelle Bennett, will address:

• Building a Research Team 
• Fostering Trust
• Developing Shared Vision
• Sharing Recognition and Credit
• Danger Signs and Intervention Strategies 

THIS WORKSHOP REQUIRES PREPARATION: Participants must take the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI) test prior to the workshop. The TKI assesses your approach to conflict and will form the basis for exploring strategies to manage conflict amongst collaborators with different approaches. The TKI test booklet will be available free of charge. Instructions for booklet pickup will be provided upon registration. 

After registering, participants must complete the following steps:  

• By March 10: pick up a copy of the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI); 
• By March 14: take the TKI test, self-score, and report your score to postdocprograms (at) stanford (dot) edu ; and,
• By March 21: review the relevant chapters of the Team Science Field Guide. 

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to learn about effective collaboration from two of the foremost experts in the field.
