Custody Division

​The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Custody Division is the fifth largest jail system in California, and among the 20 largest systems in the United States.  Our jail is among the 100 systems nationwide with an inmate population of more than 1,000.  The average daily population for the Santa Clara County Correctional facilities is approximately 4,000 inmates a day.

Approximately 65,000 arrestees are booked into the Main Jail annually. The average length of stay is about 110 days, and 80 percent of the inmate population has a history of drug or alcohol related problems.

The Custody Division consists of several units within the division: Main Jail Facility, Elmwood Correctional Facility, and Custody Administrative Services.
