Mission Statement
The mission of the Sheriff's Office Investigative Services Division is to provide follow-up investigation of criminal activity, solve crimes, enable prosecution of criminals, recover property losses and restore justice in our communities in a professional, efficient, and compassionate manner.
 
To accomplish this mission, Investigative Services consists of the following units, each dedicated to a particular type of crime.  These units come under one of two categories - crimes against persons and crimes against property.
 
Units:
 
  • Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE Task Force)
    The Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force is a team of local, state and federal law enforcement officials dedicated to proactively preventing sexual assault crimes and keeping convicted sexual assault offenders off the streets of Santa Clara County.  These detectives actively seek persons who are mandated to register as sex offenders pursuant to California Penal Code 290, to ensure that registration requirements are met.
  • Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team Task Force (REACT)
    As one of the fastest growing and most serious economic crimes in the United States, REACT investigates elaborate identity theft and fraud related crimes.
  • West Valley Detectives
    West Valley Detectives provide investigative services for all North/West Santa Clara County unincorporated areas and the contract cities of Saratoga, Cupertino and Los Altos Hills. Detectives pursue to conclusion all cases generated from reports by patrol deputies except those cases dealing with homicide, sex, or narcotics.
  • South County Investigations
    Detectives provides investigative services for all South Santa Clara County unincorporated areas. Detectives pursue to conclusion all cases generated from reports by patrol deputies except those cases dealing with homicide or narcotics.
  • Sexual Assault
    Detectives investigate all sexual assault cases against juveniles and adults, child pornography, and internet cases involving the seduction of children.
  • Robbery / Homicide
    The Homicide Unit investigates all murders, manslaughters (non traffic related), questionable deaths, mayhem, elder physical abuse and kidnapping for ransom cases.
  • Missing Persons / Juvenile Crimes / Child Abuse
    Detectives assigned to this unit investigate and locate missing persons as well as investigate all allegations of child abuse and other juvenile crimes.
  • Jail and Gang Investigations
    Detectives assigned to this unit investigate all non-sexual crimes occurring within the Santa Clara County Jails.  This unit also investigates  that also include gang violence within the jail system and within our communities., as well as all violent criminal offenses committed within custodial facilities under the control of the Sheriff.
  • Court Liaison Unit (CLU)
    Processes all general felony, misdemeanor, infractions, and warrant field cite cases with the District Attorney's Office and/or Superior Court.
  • Domestic Violence Unit
    The Domestic Violence and Hate Crimes Unit investigates crimes involving domestic violence, criminal threats and hate crimes. The unit works very closely with victim advocate groups to ensure the safety and well being of victims of traumatic events.
  • Property Crimes/Auto Theft
    Property crimes and auto theft detectives investigates major white collar crimes, including frauds, embezzlements, forgeries, identity theft, computer crimes, auto theft as well as check and credit card offenses.  They also handle elder finance abuse, grand theft and investigate both commercial and residential burglary crimes. Detectives are also responsible for coordinating with other agencies in apprehension of perpetrators who cross jurisdictional boundaries.
  • Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force (R.A.T.T.F)
    The Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF) is a proactive, multi-jurisdictional unit that augments already existing auto theft units. 
  • Crime Scene Investigations (CSI)
    Crime Scene Investigators possess a wealth of knowledge and experience. These detectives are well trained and versed in crime scene investigations. The CSIs handle all types of crime scenes, either individually or as a team. Processing crime scenes includes fingerprinting, photography, evidence collection, sketching, and providing critical testimony in criminal court proceedings. 
  • Latent Print Examiners
    The Latent Print Examiners are highly specialized individuals who examine latent (unknown) fingerprints from crime scenes and attempt to match them to known criminal’s fingerprints, from the county and statewide database. Examiners manually check fingerprints and also use an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), to search a greater number of latent fingerprints from crime scenes.   • Notario Fraud Investigation Unit
  • The unit investigates immigration service provider fraud in Santa Clara County committed by individuals without the legal authority and or proper licensing to prepare immigration paperwork. We provide the community with information on how to prevent becoming a victim of immigration fraud, the education and resources where people can obtain proper legal assistance for immigration services. Any immigration fraud investigation by our unit is submitted to the Santa Clara County Office of the District Attorney for criminal prosecution.
