About

The work of the Center to Support Excellence in Teaching (CSET) is focused on improving the quality of instruction in our nation’s schools. Demographic and income factors aside, the most important factor in student achievement is the quality of their teachers. What is more, we know that it is possible to identify effective teachers and to distinguish those who have a positive influence on student learning from those who do not.

We want to know:

  1. What are highly effective teachers doing to make a difference in the lives of the children in their classrooms? and
  2. How can we share their expertise throughout the teaching profession?

At the same time, we are aware that we need better tools to identify effective teaching as well as more meaningful systems of teacher evaluation. CSET’s work focuses on creating professional-development programs based in the strategies we know make a difference for children, building instructional capacity, and developing online resources to support this work.
