Meetups

In-person

Meetups are events hosted by OHS families to bring together the Stanford OHS community in their area. More than 30 meetups were hosted last year.

What Makes a Meetup?

Invented by Stanford OHS and powered by our students’ families, meetups come in all shapes and sizes, from backyard barbecues to watching (and cheering) at Major League baseball games, from community service projects to multi-day outings in a destination city.

Past meetups have included a pool party and a game day in southern California; a weekend of outdoor fun in the San Juan Islands of Washington State; a celebration of Spring in Boston; a visit to Elsinore Castle in Denmark, and a friendly gathering in Katsuura, Japan.

Meetup Highlights

Our Start Up! event kicks-off the new school year by gathering Stanford OHS families in clusters around the globe, meeting up on the same day, at the same time. In past years, more than 150 people have participated in 10 locations worldwide, from California to Maine, Minnesota to Florida, and all the way to Dubai. Renowned astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson joined the fun one year, when he stopped by our New York Start-Up! for an intimate 2-hour group conversation.

Our largest to date—120 attendees at last count—is the annual meetup organized around MIT Splash, the November weekend when thousands of prospective MIT applicants flood the Institute’s Cambridge, Massachusetts campus to sample from among 400 student-taught classes on, well, you name it.
