For Stanford graduate students and post-doctoral fellows

Are you looking to . . .

  • Enhance your skills at facilitating challenging class discussions?
  • Feel better prepared when course content touches on topics related to race, gender, class, sexuality, and other aspects of individual identity?
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment for all students in all academic disciplines?

Apply for the Identity in the Classroom Learning Community, sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and OpenXChange.

This group will combine discussing research and writing on identity in the classroom (such as Whistling Vivaldi and Teaching to Transgress) with creating practical, thoughtful responses to real-world classroom challenges. The group will meet regularly, with the goal of identifying and creating campus resources, best practices, and classroom activities for both our own teaching and the campus community. Participants will have substantial opportunity to shape the group’s focus and final products.

Eight group meetings will occur throughout the 2015-16 academic year, and your time commitment will be honored by a $500 stipend for participation.

Participation is limited to ten individuals, and is open to Stanford graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in all departments, programs, and research areas. Application deadline is October 23, 2015.
