Stanford Neurosciences Institute partners with the Vice Provost for Graduate Education to award Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowships (SIGFs) in the area of neuroscience. These fellowships provide current graduate students, whose research interests are in the interdisciplinary neurosciences, with three years of funding support. The Institute plans to grow our Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowships Program to a total of 30 fellows over time.
Announcing the
2016 Stanford Bio-X, Stanford Neurosciences Institute, and ChEM-H Fellowships

Thanks to our generous donors, Stanford Neurosciences Institute is offering two, three-year fellowships with funding beginning in the Fall of 2016.
Three independent institutes under the Dean of Research: Bio-X, Stanford Neurosciences Institute, and ChEM-H, in conjunction with VPGE, are working together to award this year's graduate fellowships in the biosciences. Applications received will be considered for the Bio-X-Bowes Fellowships, Bio-X SIGFs, and SIGFs affiliated with SNI and ChEM-H. Graduate students in the Neurosciences should apply through the Bio-X application portal.
Graduate students including neuroscience-themed research proposals in their application will be automatically considered for the SIGF affiliated with the SNI as well as for Bio-X Fellowships. SNI is grateful to Bio-X and the Bio-X Leadership Council for incorporating the SIGF affiliated with SNI into this year’s round of their long-standing and successful program.
Graduate students must read the full eligibility requirements before applying. It is extremely important that your proposal is interdisciplinary (bringing together two or more separate fields of study) with at least two faculty members involved in your proposed project as mentors. The interdisciplinary nature of the proposal must be clearly defined and evident in the research plan submitted as part of the application. Preference will be given to students who are jointly mentored by at least two faculty members who are expert in distinctly separate areas of science and technology.
Required with the application are an introductory page, interdisciplinary research plan, curriculum vitae, 2 letters of recommendation from Stanford faculty members, transcripts from all institutions attended, educational information, test scores and a description of any present sources of tuition or stipend funding. Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowships affiliated with the Stanford Neurosciences Institute as well as for Bio-X Fellowships are selected in conjunction with the Vice Provost of Graduate Education. Students applying for SIGFs through Bio-X should not submit a duplicate application to VPGE.
