Bike to Work Bike to Transit, May 12

|

Ever considered hopping on your bike for the morning commute? Think of the fresh air, sunshine and no traffic!

May is National Bike Month and it’s your chance to start a new experience. As part of that observance, VTA and the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition are encouraging riders of all ages to take part in “Bike to Work Day” May 12. If your commute is a bit too far for a bike ride, consider riding to transit and using one of the many convenient bike racks on VTA buses and light rail trains.

On May 12, stop by one of the many “energizer” stations along the way to grab refreshments and bike maps. VTA will host an Energizer Station at the Great Mall/Main Transit Center as part of one of the biggest bike events in the Bay Area. Stop by between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for light refreshments and receive your very own BTWD Bike Bag filled with goodies.

In addition to public transit service, the Valley Transportation Authority has a Bicycle Program committed to improving the bicycle infrastructure throughout Santa Clara County, and to enable and encourage people to bike to work, school, errands and for recreation. The Bicycle Program provides facilities, services, and programs dedicated to make bicycling a safer and more practical option for Santa Clara County residents and visitors. This year, VTA is updating the Countywide Bike Plan.

Also on Bike to Work Day, the “Movers and Shakers” of Santa Clara County will hit the bike trail starting from downtown San Jose. Join VTA General Manager Nuria Fernandez, SVBC Executive Director Shiloh Ballard, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, and more as they take on the 7-mile “Movers and Shakers” ride beginning at the MLK Public Library in Downtown San Jose. The ride begins at 7:30 a.m. on May 12 and follows the Guadalupe River Trail to the VTA River Oaks Administrative offices at 3331 North First Street.
