R&DE Student Housing Responds to the Drought with an Irrigation Equipment Overhaul

In response to the California drought and rising water costs, R&DE Student Housing replaced all of its irrigation equipment with more efficient models across its 57 acres of landscape. This included over 20,000 spray heads, rotors and flow sensors, and 87 new weather-based irrigation controllers that are centrally controlled, receiving real-time water use data. The project is expected to save 33 million gallons of water per year, a 46% reduction in usage. The project received approximately $360,000 in rebates from partners at the Santa Clara Valley Water District and Stanford Utilities.
