The Stanford Neuro-Oncology Program Fellowship

Fellowship Overview

Neuro-Oncology is a growing subspecialty that is in constant evolution as novel diagnostic strategies, therapeutics, and prognostic factors are being discovered. Basic science and clinical trials play a pivotal role in this subspecialty to improve outcomes for neuro-oncological disorders. There continues to be a great need for physicians who have an interest in research as well as clinical practice. Our fellowship program offers one- to two-year training periods for candidates who have completed an adult or pediatric neurology residency and have attained the qualifications necessary to sit for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology examination. We will also consider applicants who have completed training in medical oncology, pediatric oncology, neurosurgery, or radiation oncology on a case by case basis. The first year of our fellowship focuses primarily on the clinical training. Fellows are also encouraged to pursue their research interests concurrent with their clinical training or to complete a second year of training to focus specifically on research. Our goal is to train future leaders in the field of academic neuro-oncology.

We are a UCNS (United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties) accredited program in Neuro-Oncology and it is our expectation that graduates of the program will take the certification examination at the completion of the program.

Applications

We are currently accepting applications for the 2018-2019 fellowship years in Pediatric Neuro Oncology.  Our deadline for the incoming class of fellows is ongoing, however we encourage applicants to complete their applications as soon as possible. We request a cover letter outlining your career goals and interests, three letters of recommendation, a copy of your CV, and a completed application form.

The Adult Neuro Oncology Fellowship program has reached capacity for July 2016 - June 2019.

For the incoming fellowship class beginning in July 2019, the Society for Neuro-Oncology will serve as the sponsor of the newly-launched formal fellowship match program for applicants.  This program is a natural next-step for neuro-oncology as a growing field and establishes a first-ever public listing of participating fellowship programs, a uniform timeline, and standardized base application documents.  The call for applications for the 2019-2020 fellowship year opens October 2, 2017.  For complete information, including a list of requisite application documents and frequently asked questions (FAQs), visit https://www.sfmatch.org/Specialty.aspx and select the “Neuro-Oncology” tab.
