About the Organization: Established in 2011 in collaboration with MIT as a private educational institute, Skoltech is cultivating a new generation of researchers and entrepreneurs, promoting advanced scientific knowledge, and fostering innovative technology. Although Skoltech is a postgraduate university, it offers research internships for undergraduate students from the U.S. and Europe. It is the only university in Russia where English is the primary language of communication.
Work Description: Interns are admitted to one of the numerous Skoltech research centers or labs that corresponds to their university major and academic interests. They usually join a specific research project and work together with local Masters’ and PhD students on the tasks identified by the head researcher. "I was able to partake in a unique program, one of the first and only of its kind: a dual internship in a Russian lab (for
me, the Energy Lab at Skoltech) combined with Russian language learning through the nine weeks I spent in the country. I had the chance to explore Moscow and the surrounding area. From going to Tula for the day with two Russian students my age and an American peer from my program, to riding the exquisitely decorated metro to get yet another khachapuri, the opportunity to interact with the local culture, cuisine and people was invaluable."
