Back-Up Care Program Now Available for Staff

Benefits-eligible staff are now able to find emergency and back-up child and adult/elder care through the Back-Up Care Advantage Program provided by one of the WorkLife Office’s partners, Bright Horizons.

Voice & Influence Circles Launch Second Year of Successful Program

Voice & Influence Circles, created by University HR's WorkLife Office in partnership with the Clayman Institute for Gender Research and inspired by Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In book, concluded its first year. Phyllis Stewart Pires, the university's Senior Director of WorkLife Strategy, served as the project lead to launch the circles initiative at Stanford.

Stanford Arboretum Moves Back to Legacy Location

August was a fun-filled and busy month for the Stanford Arboretum Children’s Center (SACC). Due to campus construction near the Quarry center, SACC was relocated to Stock Farm Road in 2012. Over this two-year period, the children’s playgrounds were renovated with new surfaces and play structures, the building's exterior was painted, new interior lighting was installed and two brand-new classrooms were added to support the Pre-Kindergarten program.

White House Summit on Working Families

On June 23, Senior Director of WorkLife Strategy, Phyllis Stewart Pires, joined 1,800 business leaders, economists, elected officials, advocates and select working parents from across the country in President Obama’s White House Summit on Working Families in Washington, D.C. Stewart Pires was nominated to participate in Summit discussions, which address the biggest challenges faced by our nation’s working families from affordable childcare and living wage to the cost of living and workplace issues.
