Persons With Disabilities
Parking access with a state-issued placard
Stanford University complies with all state, federal and local laws regarding equal access for persons with disabilities. Individuals with state-issued disability parking placards (from any state) can park in any marked space on campus. This includes:
- Designated blue disabled-access spaces
- Commuter (‘A’, ‘C’, ‘Z’, etc.) and residential permit spaces (‘ES’, ‘EA’, etc.)
- Visitor pay parking spaces
- Service vehicle spaces
Parking for persons with a temporary disability
If you have a temporary disability, you may apply for a temporary “Service Vehicle” courtesy permit from Stanford Transportation. These permits are NOT VALID IN DISABLED PARKING SPACES. Please send a completed Temporary Service Vehicle Permit For Temporary Disabilities (PDF) application form to transportation@stanford.edu.
We can issue only one temporary “Service Vehicle” courtesy permit for up to one week, valid in ‘Service Vehicle’, ‘Visitor’, commuter ‘A’, ‘C’ or ‘Z’ and residential permit spaces. Please note that posted time limitations shall apply in these spaces. If a permit of longer duration is necessary, you'll need to apply to the DMV for a state placard.
Disability Golf (DisGo) Cart Service
Disability Golf (DisGo) Cart Service is a complimentary curb-to-curb transportation service managed by Stanford Transportation. If you are an eligible Stanford student, staff or faculty member with a disability or medical condition, DisGo can provide travel between core campus locations with a vehicle that will accommodate your needs. Service is provided throughout the academic year excluding weekends, holidays and winter break. If you have questions about this service, please call 415.404.1059 during normal business hours.
Marguerite Shuttle
WHEELCHAIR & MOBILITY ASSISTANCE
All Marguerite shuttles are wheelchair accessible. Please note the driver is responsible for securing passengers.
Some buses are equipped with a kneeling feature that lowers the front end so that the first step is easier to reach. If you have difficulty boarding the bus, ask the driver to lower the front end or deploy the lift or ramp.
The side-facing seats in the front of the bus and/or the first two forward-facing seats are priority seating for seniors or passengers with disabilities. If you need assistance with securing a seat, please ask the driver.
VISUAL IMPAIRMENT ASSISTANCE
When boarding, please notify the driver if assistance is needed in identifying a designated stop. Announcements are made at major stops. A limited amount of Braille/tactile maps of some shuttle routes are available. For more information, please contact the Diversity & Access Office at disability.access@stanford.edu or 650.725.0326.
ANIMALS
Animals are prohibited on Marguerite shuttles, except service animals. The service animal must be under the control of its handler, must be on a leash that does not interfere with other passengers and must be near their owner’s side without blocking aisles.
Stanford is committed to making reasonable modifications to its policies, practices and procedures to ensure full access to its facilities and activities for individuals with disabilities. To make a request for a reasonable modification and/or for questions/concerns, please contact the Diversity & Access Office at disability.access@stanford.edu or 650.725.0326.
