Stanford Graduate School of Education is committed to creating an environment in which everyone can thrive, learn, and contribute meaningfully to addressing the most pressing education issues in our diverse communities.
We live in challenging times. The centuries-long fight for racial justice has reached a crescendo in 2020 in ways that have involved and affected many of you. In education, the global pandemic has further laid bare—and exacerbated—the inequities that continue to limit access to quality learning.
This moment in history demands that we look closely at how we can fight anti-Black racism and how it affects students and educators. At the GSE, our focus continues to be on providing—and helping our students learn to provide—equitable, accessible, and effective learning for all.
Through responsive teaching and innovative research, our faculty members focus on equity every day. Our research centers examine how issues of equity affect students, educators, and schools. And our students, faculty and staff see equity and inclusion as central to our mission of creating new and better ways to achieve high-quality education for all.
We may not have all the answers. But the quest for knowledge and the search for truth are exciting, worthwhile endeavors. Join us in creating the world we want to see.
Eric Abrams
Chief Inclusion Officer, Stanford Graduate School of Education
Stanford makes available data on the composition of the university community since 2010. The university plans to improve and refine the data it collects, reflecting identities as people experience them, including gender, intersectionality, and invisible differences.
Launched in the winter of 2021, the inaugural GSE Inclusion Council seeks to strengthen and broaden inclusive leadership school wide. Comprised of faculty, staff, students, and alumni, the council will advise and consult with the Chief Inclusion Officer on initiatives intended to create a welcoming environment for all.
