Leaders of 20 leading developed and emerging nations met in Pittsburgh 24-25 September to seek solutions to the worst global economic crisis to hit in decades. In comments to reporters at the end of the summit, U.S. President Barak Obama said the leaders agreed to leave stimulus programs in place until economic recoveries are firm. The leaders also declared that the world's major and developing economies are forging a new approach to economics.
The G20 will take on economic issues that have traditionally been handled by the G8, a small group of wealthy nations.
