These materials were largely collected by Marjorie Shuer and include video tapes, audio tapes, and research notes from an oral history project; and miscellaneous correspondence, questionnaires, clippings, and memorabilia. The video tapes are interviews with Joseph H. Ruetz, Athletic Director at Stanford University from 1972 to 1978, and with Rosamond Clarke Bacon and Paula Burr, both members of the class of 1930 and active in student athletics; the audio tapes include interviews with Richard Lyman, Stanford University President during the 1970s, Shirley Schoof, Sherri Posthumous, Barbara Gelpi, Myra Strober, Jing Lyman, and Iris Litt. The research notes were compiled by Jennifer Dalton, Laura Hayward, and Renee Pavelski. Subjects include the strengthening and developing of women's athletics during and after the merger of the athletic and physical education departments (1972); and student and athletic experiences of the 1930s, including the Women's Athletic Association.
These papers reflect Shuer's interest in women's sports and include correspondence, clippings, articles, reports, notes, and assorted records from several Stanford University athletic committees and from its Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. The clippings primarily date from the 1970s, with some from the 1990s. The correspondence includes incoming and outgoing letters; subjects include her participation in Stanford athletic committees, her own career, and the effort to get recognition for Stanford women athletes. Also of note in the papers are materials from a questionnaire distributed to female athletes at Stanford in 1971.
Collection includes minutes from 1919-21 and one meeting in 1929. Issues before the committee included intercollegiate versus intramural competitions, training rules, response to invitations for competitive games, and rejection of varsity teams

Also includes course materials, correspondence, reports, memoranda, photographs, and miscellaneous materials pertaining to the department and photographs and records of two dance clubs - the Stanford Hoedowners and the Stanford Folk Dancers. Of note are completed survey forms on the recreational needs of women college students, 1948, from Mills College, Stanford, University of New Mexico, and University of Wyoming, with related correspondence and notes.

Includes programs, statistics, press releases, scrapbooks, brochures, photographs, slides, and pamphlets pertaining to football, basketball, wrestling, golf, and other sports at Stanford University, including two scrapbooks on women's sports at Stanford, 1964-1975. There are also video tapes of football games, 1970-1992; women's basketball games, 1987-1999; men's basketball games, 1984-1992; miscellaneous tapes of volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, and baseball; interviews with coaches Jack Elway, Dick Gould, Tara VanDerveer, and Mike Montgomery; and campus promotional spots aired during televised games.
Guthrie taught physical education classes at Stanford University from 1936 until her retirement in 1972 and served as director of the Women's Physical Education Department from 1956 to 1968. Her professional papers pertain to her teaching and administrative duties, her professional associations, and her interests in women's sports, particularly tennis; included are correspondence, minutes, memoranda, reports, newsletters, brochures, and other printed items.
