This guide provides an overview of the standards resources that are available at Stanford. The Engineering Library has a collection of standards that includes many full-text online standards.

Finding standards

Many standards are listed in SearchWorks. To find standards, search in SearchWorks for the name of the standard issuing organization (e.g. ASTM, ISO) or the individual standards title. Please note, some standards are grouped together under the issuing organization, so you won't find them by title.

Instructors interested in getting copies of ISO Standards for use in the classroom can now get copies for students via the ANSI University Outreach Program. For information and request forms please contact Sarah Lester.

Access selected full-text online standards from the following publishers via the TechStreet platform. You must have the File Open plugin for Acrobat, to view the full-text files.  Access to these standards is restricted to Stanford users only. *Note: Additional Standards previously available via TechStreet can now be accessed using ANSI Standards Connect.

ACI manual of concrete practice
Provides access to ACI concrete and masonry code requirements and specifications. 
ASTM Compass
Download any of ASTM's 12,000+ standards, covering metals, petroleum, construction, the environment, and more.
IEEE Xplore
Full text access to IEEE and IEE standards, including the National Electric Safety Code (C2 standards). Also includes access to IEEE draft standards.
SAE Digital Library
The Standards portion of the SAE Digital Library references thousands of SAE standards. SAE publishes many new, revised, and reaffirmed standards each year in three categories: Ground Vehicle Standards (J-Reports); Aerospace Standards; and Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS). Older standards are available in the SAE Digital Library Historical Standards.
Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE)
SMPTE is the leading standards development body for motion imaging standards.
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)
Standards for information & communications technologies including fixed, mobile, radio, broadcast, internet and several other areas.
International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T)
ITU-T is the leading publisher of telecommunication technology, regulatory and standard information. Many of the over 3000 ITU-T Recommendations can be downloaded for free. These are also available in print via SearchWorks
