Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System is recognized as top performer in Women Veteran's Health Care
The Women’s Health Evaluation Initiative (WHEI), directed by Susan Frayne, MD, MPH, uses multiple large, existing VA databases to characterize the health care needs, utilization patterns and cost of care for women veteran VA patients nationally. Data produced by this program evaluation work directly inform efforts by VA’s women’s health leadership in Washington to redesign delivery systems for women veterans nationally.
This interdisciplinary initiative profits from collaboration with Ciaran Phibbs, PhD, an Economist in VA’s Health Economics Resource Center and a faculty member at Stanford in Pediatrics. It also profits from collaboration with Samina Iqbal, MD, who directs the award-winning Women’s Health Center at VA Palo Alto Health Care System; Iqbal also serves as Senior Consultant to VA’s National Women Veterans Health Program, to help shape women veterans health policy nationally, and she is a faculty member in the Stanford Division of General Medical Disciplines. One of the data analysts for this work, which requires sophisticated manipulation of multiple complex databases, is Eric Berg, MS, also of the Stanford Division of General Medical Disciplines.
