Find Special Collections materials

Last Updated: 7-May-2013

Here is how you can do a basic search in SearchWorks to find all types of Special Collections materials:

1) Go to SearchWorks:

http://searchworks.stanford.edu/

2) Type in your search terms in the search box. Click on the word "search"

3) When the screen populates with your search results look at the left hand side and click on "location"

4) Select "Special Collections & Archives" as the location

5) The screen will populate with items found only in Special Collections and University Archives that match your search terms.

From here you can refine your search even more by selecting format, author, publication year, etc. For example, if you wish to find archives of manuscript materials, you can limit format to "manuscript/archive" on the left hand side.

Another way to search for archival or manuscript materials is to use search terms in the Online Archive of California and limit the institution to Stanford University on the right hand side.  If you find a collection you are interested in, go back to SearchWorks and type in the collection's call number and page the boxes from the SearchWorks record.
