About

The Music Library provides research support for all aspects of music scholarship. Collections include over 130,000 books and scores, 30,000 sound and video recordings, multiple streaming media databases and other digitized content. Recording collections are greatly enhanced by the Archive of Recorded Sound. Librarians offer instruction on research methods and use of resources. Tours are available year-round.

Listening carrels include turntables, CD, and cassette players. A group study room allows playback of DVD, CD, VHS, and Laserdisc formats. Two Stanford-only computers include digital keyboards and an extensive software suite. Headphones are available. Audio- and video-copying facilities are not available.

Pay for photocopying with the Stanford Card Plan, or a copy card.

Use of the color scanner is restricted to SUNet ID holders. Microfilm scanning is available to all.

Access

The library is open to the public, though borrowing privileges are restricted to Stanford affiliates. Circulation services end 15 minutes prior to closing.

Loan periods:
Books and scores : Academic quarter
CDs and DVDs : 7 days
Bound periodicals and other Limited Loan : 7 days for graduate students and faculty
Reserves : 4 hours, unless otherwise noted

Accessibility

The main entrance is power-equipped and accessible, and elevator access is available between the main level and lower level.

Location

The entrance is at the eastern end of Braun Music Center, next to the campus post office.

Transit and parking

Marguerite shuttle: X or Y to Tresidder Student Union stop.

From Highway 101 North & South:

Take the Embarcadero Road exit west toward Stanford. At El Camino Real, Embarcadero turns into Galvez Road as it enters the University. Stay in the left lane and continue toward the center of campus. At the first stop sign, make a left onto Campus Drive East and continue until you reach Mayfield Avenue, and make a right. After the next stop sign, take the first right into a large parking area adjacent to Braun Music Center, Dinkelspiel Auditorium and Tresidder Memorial Union.

From Highway 280 North:

Exit Sand Hill Road east toward Stanford. Continue east, turning right at the traffic light on Santa Cruz Avenue. Make an immediate left onto Junipero Serra Boulevard. Turn left at the second stoplight, Campus Drive East. Make a left at the first stop sign, onto Mayfield Drive. After the next stop sign, take the first right into a large parking area adjacent to Braun Music Center, Dinkelspiel Auditorium and Tresidder Memorial Union.

From Highway 280 South:

Exit Page Mill Road toward Stanford. Continue east, turning left at the traffic light on Junipero Serra Blvd. Turn right at Stanford Avenue and continue to Bowdoin St. Turn left on to Campus Drive East and make a right-hand turn on to Mayfield Dr. After the next stop sign, take the first right into a large parking area adjacent to the Braun Music Center, Dinkelspiel Auditorium and Tresidder Memorial Union.

From El Camino Real:

Exit El Camino Real at University Avenue. Turn toward the hills (away from the center of Palo Alto). As you enter Stanford, University Avenue becomes Palm Drive. Go through one traffic light, and turn left onto Campus Drive East at the first stop sign. Continue on Campus Drive East until you reach Mayfield Avenue, and make a right. After the next stop sign, take the first right into a large parking area adjacent to Braun Music Center, Dinkelspiel Auditorium and Tresidder Memorial Union.

Parking near Braun Music Center

You may use the Parkmobile app or Parkmobile website to pay for parking in the Tresidder lot (look for the bright green signs). The Tresidder lot also has coin-metered spaces (at $1.50/hour) and "pay and display" spaces. A self-serve machine in the Tresidder lot issues one-day visitor permits for $12.00, good for up to 8 hours. Display the receipt on your dashboard, and park in either the "pay and display" or metered spaces. The permit dispenser accepts credit cards, cash or coins. It does not issue change. Please note that parking is monitored Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.
